Jin Ke was a soldier serving the Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang and was charged to protect the workers who built the Great Wall of China from nomad attacks. Dissatisfied with the emperor and his bloody actions, he took part in a conspiracy to assassinate him. The conspiracy, however, was discovered and all its members were killed, except Jin, who awakened as an Immortal. He thought this new life would enable him to amend his faults, so he decided to live honorably, defending the right causes and fighting evil. After centuries, he ran afoul of Jacob Kell and for his own reasons was the first to accompany the man on his quest for power. Unlike most of Kell's men, Jin Ke (along with Faith) escaped the "last supper".

Jin Ke's preferred weapons are the guan dao a Chinese halberd-like bladed polearm and the jian, or Chinese straight sword. He is also a highly skilled hand-to-hand fighter.
